Free Floating Trio is a tightly woven musical collective with drummer Anders Mogensen, pianist Carl Winther and bassist Richard Andersson.
The three musicians belong to the absolute elite of European jazz. With equal virtuosity and taste, they always manage to find the emotional core in the music. The music on this album – carrying the same name as the trio – draws on inspiration from as well jazz as classical music. The main composer, Anders Mogensen, is an internationally acclaimed jazz drummer, known from his long time collaboration with Jerry Bergonzi, Dave Liebman, George Garzone and Steve Swallow. However, Mogensen is also a versatile composer – at the same time rooted in tradition and exploring new musical frontiers. The album’s seven original compositions represents a new step in Anders Mogensen’s career, and it shows how he has grown as an artist, since he started out as a professional jazzdrummer more than three decades ago
Besides the seven compositions from Anders the album also contains one original by piano player Carl Winther as well as a couple of classics from the great american songbook.

The Free Floating Album contains the following tracks:
Gratitude: A song expressing gratitude to the composer’s parents for helping out at a difficult time in life.
Back and Forth: A medium up, energetic and very bright latin theme.
It’s You Or No One: an up tempo interpretation of the classic jazz standard by Jule Styne and Sammy Cahn from 1948.
This Is All I Ask: Another jazz classic – and one of Anders Mogensen’s favourite ballads – composed in 1958 by Gordon Jenkins.
Going Easy: Anders Mogensen’s take on writing a
a swinging and joyous medium up tempo tune.
The Master: a song inspired by and dedicated to classical master composer, Johan Sebastian Bach.
Free Floating: a tune capturing the feeling of being immersed in the free flow of music.
For LRP is a beautiful and lyrical tune with a nordic mood.
To Brazil With Love is a fine bossa nova paying tribute to Brazilian music.
Tall Times is an intense up tempo piece by Carl Winther in the style of McCoy Tyner.
Even has been on the scene for 3 decades he is still growing as a musician. Besides being an accomplished drummer, touring the World with musicians such as Dave Liebman, Steve Swallow, Walt Weiskopf and Jerry Bergonzi, Mogensen is also developing as a composer.
Free Floating features seven original compositions by Mogensen, two standards and one original by the piano player Carl Winther. Mogensen explains that composition is a serious tool in the development as a melodic drummer! Downbeat has called Mogensen for the “most subtle drummer in Europe”. Listen for yourself.
